The Trumpanzee

When a democracy is trampled underfoot...

Illustrations by Nadine Reitz

When the Trumpanzee appears in the jungle one day and suggests choosing a leader, the animals think it's not a bad idea. They all agree that the leader should be the strongest, quickest and largest among them. How strange that it’s the Trumpanzee who turns out to be the strongest, quickest and largest – not the bear, the tiger or the elephant, as the clever lemur had expected. And so begins the rule of the orange colossus with the white teeth. But the jungle animals don’t like being ruled by the Trumpanzee, and after a while the lemur starts to have his suspicions. What if the Trumpanzee lied? What if he’s actually a conman?
