A wizard friend of Petronella’s asks if one of his students can stay with her for a few days. Petronella says yes, even though she’s got her hands full with the outbreak of glow-nose-itis that’s just hit Hazel Wood. Just as she had feared, the wizard's apprentice – who calls himself ‘The Great Balderdash’ – causes all kinds of chaos. So when Lea begs Petronella to help an injured owl at an animal shelter, her plea comes at a most inopportune time. Petronella tells the children they’ll have to wait. But Lea doesn't want to. And when Balderdash offers his help, the children set out with the apprentice on their own...
